TryHards AMA featuring CEO Thomas on DuckDao Lobby

The first-ever AMA session of TryHards: an NFT-based blockchain shooter game, hosted by Pep from DuckDao and featuring Thomas, CEO of TryHards.

Thomas: Hi everyone, I am excited to talk about TryHards.

Pep.: Awesome! We’ll be starting in just a minute.

Pep.: Welcome everyone to another DuckDAO AMA. Today, we welcome the team from TryHards.

Thomas: Thanks for the intro Pep…

Pep.: Super excited to have you here Thomas! This should be a fun AMA.

Thomas: Thank you for inviting me.

Pep.: Lots of supporters for this project who want to know more! So with that said… let’s get started.

Thomas: Awesome

Q1: First off, can you give us a brief intro of yourself?

Thomas: Sure. Hi, I am Thomas, the CEO of TryHards. With a passion for gaming, I worked for several years in the web and game development industries. I also had my own company. It is now time for Metaverses. The idea for TryHards was born in 2020 when I saw the immense potential of NFTs.

I know the TryHards core team already for a longer period of time and have also already worked with the dev team on previous projects. I shared my vision and mission with them and they were instantly on board.

Pep.: Yeah Metaverse is hot! Glad you timed your arrival so perfectly.

Thomas: Thanks pep

Q2: Ok so now, can you, at a high level, tell us about TryHards before we dive into more detailed questions?

Thomas: TryHards is an NFT shooting metaverse driven by the community — for the community. Gamers can collect and train their Fanatics (Champions) and Weapons in order to make tactical decisions while they battle for honor in the arena on Planet X. Combining the best of DeFi and NFTs to create a truly unique and everlasting shooting metaverse.

But of course, there’s a lot more to talk about

Pep.: Yes, of course!

Thomas: But that is also the reason why I am here tonight

Q3: What was your reasoning for going with Polygon and how do you feel about the chain going forward in reference to the gaming market share?

Thomas: Polygon combines the best of Ethereum and sovereign blockchains into a full-fledged multi-chain system.

Polygon solves pain points associated with Blockchains, like high gas fees and slow speeds, without sacrificing security. This multi-chain system is akin to other ones such as Polkadot, Cosmos, Avalanche, etc but with at least three major upsides,

  • It is able to fully benefit from Ethereum’s network effects
  • It is inherently more secure
  • It is more open and powerful

But this is just the beginning, we aim to go on BSC and Solana after launching on Polygon.

Pep.: I concur. Oh, nice…a lot of members are more familiar with BSC so that would be a nice add on as well

Q4: Do players need any kind of specialized equipment to play the game?

Thomas: In terms of gameplay a mouse and a PC are required. In the future, we also want to make a mobile game out of it. But this is considered on a later stage. As of now, we focus on the game itself.

Pep.: Ok perfect…so no new expensive equipment is required to get started.

Thomas: That’s true

Q5: What will be the attraction for mass adoption of the metaverse concept? Do you feel that this is mainly a crypto attraction or do you see mainstream flocking towards it? Also, how easy will it be for mainstream (non-crypto) to get on board and play the game?

Thomas: I think Mark Zuckerberg recently mentioned that he also wants to build a metaverse on Facebook. I do not believe that it is just a trend in the crypto space. So I think the mainstream leans also towards it which is also good for the blockchain sector because people get to know the functionalities of metaverses and the entry barrier for blockchain gets lower.

Overall, I think it is a good movement and it will help to bring more people into the space. Big game companies also already envision having NFTs within their game and there are major partnerships already in place. So the industries will have crossovers. The more familiar people get with the system, the more adaption for all of us.

Pep.: Yeah this is true. I’m already fascinated with how many mainstream users now know about NFTs…before we used to live in such a crypto bubble but now it’s like everyone knows about crypto still shocking to me 😂

But gaming is such a great way to bring more mainstream users in!

Thomas: But that is also nice to see that more and more people move into the blockchain space I totally agree.

Pep.: Oh it’s awesome… but I still have to pinch myself to see our new reality and this day has arrived ❤❤

Q6: So Play to Earn is obviously a very hot genre, but let’s talk about the NFTs and what value they would bring to a player? Are there certain NFTs that you think the audience will gravitate more towards?

Thomas: NFTs had a huge hype this year. And it is very well deserved, but as with all pioneers, not all projects will survive this. In our metaverse, the NFTs are champions and guns which you can use to play with. Furthermore, they determine how many staking rewards you receive. They differ in rarity. We have 6 different rarities which influence your overall staking power.

I believe the more utility an NFT has the more value it will get. This is also more attractive to the audience. Maybe in several years, NFTs will be a standard for ownership in some professions. I can think of luxury goods but also membership programs. But those examples are the basic ones. Gaming is also another hot topic because people own the assets which they purchase.

Pep.: Yeah, understanding the usability aspect of the NFT has been easier for my brain to accept correlated values. At first I just didn’t get it.. but in gaming, it completely makes sense to me.

Q7: What phase is development in for the game and what’s the team’s primary focus for the short term?

Thomas: Once you try to sell your Louis Vuitton handbag on the secondary market and you own an NFT with it, you might think of me.

Pep.: lol. not sure if you saw this question posted above

Thomas: oh sorry thanks for point that out

Pep.: also I’m a Chanel Girl 😎

Thomas: The game is in development. I think we still need 1–2 months to reveal more about it and that we are set for a good alpha launch in Q1 2022. At the moment we are working on the finalization of the Dapp where you can already purchase fanatics & weapons.

Pep.: perfect launch time!

Thomas: The fanatics and weapons can be upgraded to receive more staking power. All can be traded on our internal marketplace. The NFTs are automatically staked and their universe power determines how many rewards you receive. At the moment we work in parallel, which means we continuously develop the game but also improve what we have. There will be a lot of events until we launch the alpha so it will be really interesting for the community.

Pep.: you have no idea how excited we are to hear about everything! All the little details..and we’re all ears!

Thomas: I am happy to explain it all

Q8: What are the DeFi options that you will be providing and is the financial incentive in rewards being provided for $TRY token holders or NFT holders?

Thomas: We have a liquidity-providing pool. When you provide TRY tokens against another coin — you will be rewarded with crystals (NFTs). Those crystals can be used to upgrade your NFTs (weapons & fanatics) and receive more universe power. Universe power determines how much share you receive from the staking pool. The staking pool reward is the native TRY token. So we have two mechanisms in place where you can earn.

Pep.: oh good…more options the better!

Q9: And you get more universe power from the crystals?

Thomas: Not from the crystals, but by upgrading your weapons and fanatics with crystals

Pep.: no I had to re-read that…you get more universe power by upgrading

lol ok sorry…I had misread the first response.

Thomas: No worries

Pep.: But I’m following now 😬

Q10: How is the anti-inflation mechanism in the game? Currently, many gaming tokens are not dealing well with the inflationary attributes that they have.

Thomas: We integrated a buy-back mechanism that will purchase TRY tokens back and burn them from the revenue earned inside the metaverse.

When it comes to the game, we have chosen to go for a dual token model whereby one token is inflatable to balance it out. We had a team of mathematicians work on it so the game is balanced.

Pep.: nice…that will help! perfect!

Q11: You had mentioned earlier that later a mobile version would possibly be in scope, do you think that a mobile version could lose out on the user experience?

Thomas: Yes, we are thinking about it, but at a later stage in time. We first want to concentrate on the core functionalities of the game and then expand our ecosystem. But it is really important to do so and this is why we have it really high on our bucket list. Especially emerging countries are really interested in mobile gaming.

Pep.: hmm, that’s a really good point and one that I didn’t think of before. Users from Emerging countries would most likely have access to mobile devices more so than a gaming laptop or something at home.

Thomas: I believe there are more people with a smartphone than with a bank account ;)

Pep.: so true!

Q12: What kind of wallets would users be able to connect with?

Thomas: In the beginning, we focus on the most popular wallets like MetaMask and trust wallet and then start to add other wallets in a later stage.

Q13: Is there a globally primary focus for where TryHards would be played/targeted? Would non-English speaking players suffer?

Thomas: We are mainly focussing on building a global community worldwide, but our strategy is to focus on South-East Asia and South America first. As these are the areas where play to earn is popular.

Pep.: Yes, I’ve heard that entire families are now being supported by the play-to-earn concept. You’re literally changing lives.

Truly amazing if you think about it.

Thomas: I see it more as a side effect, we just want to create an awesome game. It just shows how skewed the world sometimes is.

Q14: You have some really big names associated with the project as advisors, would you like to tell us a little who’s on board?

Thomas: You are 100% right

Let’s discuss the utility of the token

Q15: Can you explain what users would need the $TRY token for?

Thomas:

  • Providing liquidity and get crystals
  • Purchasing NFTs / loot boxes
  • Staking
  • Complete Missions/Quests
  • Participate in seasonal events
  • Contribute to the Guardians of the armory (DAO)
  • Purchasing other in-game items that will be released later

Pep.: Awesome!

Thomas: We are also looking into staking it vs other players in the arena

So one can bet on their skills to win the game. But this will be added later.

Pep.: Interesting..and another way for users to earn more

Thomas: yes!
